Kuala Lumpur (March 3, 2011) – The media introduction of the new and updated 2011 Land Rover Freelander 2, along with the new Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 and the Defender 110 Double Cab pick-up, marked the beginning of an exciting year ahead for the Land Rover brand in Malaysia.
The first media get-together event, held at Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s roadshow in Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur, also highlighted the impending arrival of the stunning new Range Rover Evoque, which is based on the acclaimed LRX concept, in the later part of the year.
The introduction of the three Land Rover models, which would appeal to those who value the brand’s authentic off-road capabilities, also marked a new global direction for the illustrious 4X4 vehicle manufacturer.
The three new models would, henceforth, be marketed separately from the more luxurious Range Rover models, comprising the iconic flagship Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport and the soon-to-be-launched Range Rover Evoque.
LAND ROVER FREELANDER 2

First launched in Malaysia in 2008, the stylish Freelander 2 is renowned for its superb handling and comfort while delivering outstanding on-road and class-leading off-road performance.
The most notable improvement in the new 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 is the more powerful yet fuel efficient 2.2 litre 190PS (140kW) turbo-diesel engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The new model also sports subtle exterior and interior updates. Even more good news is that the retail price remains the same at RM271,388 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM274,888 for Sabah and Sarawak (excluding insurance).
On the exterior, the new Freelander 2 SD4 now looks better after a classy makeover. It has gained more Range Rover-like front grille with Titan finish, re-profiled bumpers, new design head- and tail-lights and revised fog lamp bezels. |

Other styling updates included body-coloured parts such as the Oberon painted tailgate handle and door handles, headlamp washer jets and door mirrors. New 19-inch alloy wheels add to a smarter and sportier look.
Inside the cabin, the 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 now sports a more contemporary fascia with new clearer dials. Space is abundant with generous head, shoulder and legroom. All passengers can enjoy the view with Land Rover’s unique stadium seating that puts rear seat passengers 50 mm higher than those in the front seats. Rear seats can split 60/40 for a more versatile load space.
With a maximum output of 190PS (140kW) and 420Nm of torque, the Freelander’s turbo-diesel engine offers 30PS more horse power and 20Nm more torque at a lower revolution per minute (RPM) than the previous model. This translates to better engine response and more mid-range strength for towing.
The new Freelander 2 is equipped with Land Rover’s pioneering Terrain Response system. It is designed to adapt the responses of the vehicle's engine, gearbox, centre coupling and chassis systems to match the demands of the terrain for optimal drivability, comfort and traction.
The Terrain Response system also controls stability and traction aids such as Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Electronic Traction Control (ETC), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Corner Brake Control (CBC), Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Hill Descent Control (HDC).
LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 4 3.0 TDV6
The new Land Rover Discovery 4 is equipped with the new 3.0 TDV6 turbo-diesel engine, replacing the 2.7-litre powerplant found in the previous version.
The new 3.0-litre TDV6 engine, which offers a maximum power output of 244PS (180kW) and 600Nm of torque, allows the Discovery 4 to perform effortlessly on and off the road. Matched to a new, smooth- shifting 6-speed ZF automatic gearbox, the drive is brisk and refined while fuel economy has improved compared to the previous engine.

The Discovery 4’s highly efficient TDV6 Advanced Sequential Turbo Diesel engine features unique parallel sequential turbochargers. Used for the first time in a V-configuration engine, the first turbo optimises responsiveness by delivering increased torque at very low rev (thus minimising symptoms of turbo lag), whilst the second turbo minimises steep power fade at higher revs.
The Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6’s cabin , which seats 7 adults, is now more luxurious with tasteful wood trimmings, premium leather seats, mood lighting and a Harmon Kardon sound system. It is also equipped with 19-inch alloy rims and a reverse camera to offer the perfect combination of luxury, form and function. It is priced at RM423,888 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM427,388 for Sabah and Sarawak (excluding insurance).
LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 DOUBLE CAB PICK-UP
The new Land Rover Defender 110 Double Cab is equipped with a host of new features designed to make it suitable for work as well as play. The iconic Land Rover now sports 16” alloy rims (instead of steel rims), leather seats and power windows.
The new Defender 110 Double Cab is powered by a refined 2.4-litre four-cylinder common-rail turbo-diesel engine that produces a class-leading 360Nm of torque and 122PS of peak power output. The powerplant is mated to a smooth-shifting six-speed manual gearbox that provides a much wider ratio spread than before. The lower first gear combines with the engine's increased torque output to make towing on-road and off-road effortless. The Puma engine also features an anti-stall system.
Inside the cabin, a new facia and improved ergonomics ensure that the Defender is now better integrated, more robust and functionally superior. The materials used are scuff-free and able to withstand extreme weather conditions, ensuring that the Defender is able to operate in the toughest environment. It is priced at RM148,888 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM152,388 for Sabah and Sarawak (excluding insurance).
